I'm still alive...

Just wanted to check in to say that I really am working on new songs. :) Things are going slower than I'd like, but I'm trying not to rush through anything. The music is there, but the words..well those are harder to come by.

Ever feel like you have a lot to say, but you just can't figure out where to begin? That's where I'm at right now. Gotta figure out how to translate what I feel into words I suppose. The good news is, I think things are going to start to flow soon.

Thanks for sticking with me!

Birthday news....

On this day, back in 1978 I was born within the borders of the great state of New Jersey.  And so, on this day, I will announce the birth of a new project of rock.  In keeping with the theme of 10 songs in 2008, there will also be a release of an "album".

Everything will be available online of course, but there will also be a physical CD if anyone wants the hard copy.  Oh plus album art by yours truly.  And when I speak of "art", I speak of robots which are one of the only things I know how to draw.

In all seriousness it's about time I got to writing and recording music and I thought my birthday was as good a time as any to announce my first album.  I don't have a release date, but I think it will be sometime over the summer.  Memorial Day is my deadline for finishing recording, and then I'll have to just master it and all that other techie jazz.

I'm really excited, so be sure to check back here because I'll be giving updates and progress reports!  (and previews too!)

Until next time...

New Year's stuff

First of all, Happy New Year to anyone who happens to stumble upon my little piece of internet real estate. I know I haven't given anyone any real reason to keep coming back here due to my major songwriting dry spell, so I appreciate you checking in.

On that note, here's some insight into the music plan for 2008:

There is this
RPM song writing challenge in February that is open to anyone to enter. The goal is to write and record 10 songs in 28 days. I tried to do this last year, and ended up not actually finishing ONE song. Yes..I'm good I know.

I'm taking a slightly different take on this challenge this year. I'm going to use February as a jumping off point for writing, and hopefully use the momentum to carry me through the whole year. The goal is to write and record 10 songs in the next YEAR. (I think I wrote 2 songs in 2007).

By that time, I should have built up enough confidence to actually play one of these 10 songs live at an open mic.

So if I'm quiet on here, thats a good thing. It means I'm actually working on stuff. There should be a new song post here once a month beginning March 1st.

10 songs, 10 months. Wish me luck.

Peace,

Good News...and Bad News

First the good news...I have been working on new music for the past few weeks and have a lot of good ideas cooking so hopefully I'll have something to show for my efforts by January of 2008. I don't want to rush anything just for the sake of putting something out, so I hope the wait is worth it!

The bad news is..I'm home sick today. Blah.

MORE good news! I had my guitar adjusted at the local music shop and just picked it up today. Long story short is, I've had my guitar for about 6 years now and the action on the neck has really started to get high. I brought it in hoping they could adjust the neck, and wouldn't you know it, they not only adjusted it, but they practically made it look and feel brand new again.

I'm still sick though :(

Until next time

Google's "notebook" opened my mind...

...and freed the creative writing hermit that refused to come out and play when presented with a pen and notepad.

Guess my inner muse is more tech savvy than I originally gave him credit for.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for swinging by the page...I'm glad you found your way over to my little piece of internet real estate.

On the music front, things are progressing. I know I keep saying that, but it's true! Unfortunately I haven't had a whole weekend to really put my idea's together, but I've been writing down stuff in a notebook whenever a good idea pops into my head. I've also been working on picking up the guitar more just to play, mindlessly most of the time but hey, at least I'm playing.

My major problem has been trying to figure out what I want to say. I guess it's sorta like writers block, but I think it has more to do with blocking my emotions than anything. I have a feeling once I find the way to the "well" so to speak, the thoughts are gonna flow more freely. I just need to keep plugging away until my mind opens up a little more. People say that if you wait around for inspiration to hit you, you'll end up waiting a long time. So I've been working on just writing for the sake of writing and seeing what happens.

I'm ALSO going to be working on this whole blog thing. Not that I think I have such amazing ideas and thoughts that people will be tuning into on a daily basis, but more because I think the more you write, across different mediums, the easier it gets. So I'll give it a while, even if it's just bits and pieces.

So again, thank you for stopping by. I'm thinking that by sometimes between Christmas and New Years I'll finally have recorded some new music. Keep your fingers and toes crossed though. With my work schedule lately, free time is almost non existent.

Sleep is overrated anyway right? Agreed.

Until next time...
